Happy 30th Birthday, Sohmer!!

In the fall of 2002 I received an email from a total stranger that would change my life forever. No, I'm not talking about a Nigerian prince (I'm still waiting for that cheque) but one balding young fellow out of Montreal with an idea for a collaboration on a webcomic. He had an impressive amount of written material and some solid ideas, plus a wicked sense of humour that I could totally relate to. A dialogue between us began and hasn't stopped yet.

No. I already said it wasn't a Nigerian prince. Haven't you been listening?

The brighter among you will realize I'm talking about one Ryan Sohmer. It's hard to believe that years have flown by and the guy who once wrote me about the foibles of Hollywood's elite and the girl he just.. um... you know... repeatedly....is the demi-responsible and age-phobic internet phenomena we know and love today. Not only that but he's one of the closest friends I've ever EVER had. He lives each moment with the same intensity that he brings to bear on his writing. He sets the bar on his own life very high and consequently those of us fortunate to call him friend keep our own bars high. At first, possibly not to disappoint him and later not to disappoint ourselves.

I know I am a better artist from my association with him. I'm pretty sure I'm a better person too. This post isn't going to do justice for the love I have for this man, but I just can't stay quiet.

Happy birthday, my friend.

The End is Near

It's July 1st today.

As I sit at my desk upon my return from Wizard World Chicago (I've putting in my vote to rename Chicago to 'Humidicity'), I'm left with that pleasant post-con ache that usually follows 5 days of reader-induced debauchery.

All in all, it was a fantastic time, and Lar, Ryan, Nick and myself thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We did make an important discovery though, and that is simply that were I a bit shorter, I would be a clone of Brian Michael Bendis.

This is okay with me, as I'd prefer that over looking like Yoda.

Regardless of the Chicago stories playing over in my head, my mind seems to be stuck on a single, powerful thought:

It's July 1st today.

In 4 short days, I will be turning 30.

If you need me at all this week, I'll be the bald guy crying in the corner. And please don't worry if you hear some woman-like shrills…those are me too.

- Because I can.

In a few short hours I will begin the usual pre-con rituals, which includes a run to the pharmacy, poking Randy until he confirms that everything is in order for the show, and making small whining noises as Sue packs my bags but doesn't include my favorite shirt.

Of course, this all culminates in the boarding of a plane to Chicago, for Wizard World.

Lar, Ryan, Nick and myself will be there for the duration of the show, at our temporary home at booth 938. As always, we will have plenty of books, t-shirts and other fun stuff for sale.

And of course, I wouldn't be me should I forget to mention that my love and affection can indeed be purchased, at the low low price of a can or 6 of Red Bull. It's been noted scientific fact, that the more Red Bull I receive, the happier and funnier I become.

Thusly, by bringing me Red Bull you are in fact ensuring yourself a better time at the convention.

Please help me help you.

Regardless, we hope to see as many of you out there as possible, so do come by if you're able, and engage us in conversation and other shenanigans. We do love our convention times.

Oh, if you're in need of a funny story, ask me about the dream I had after I saw The Incredible Hulk.

- Because I can.

***(See new links below)***

As promised, we've got another LICD video for you today, and I'm insanely proud of it. It's sick, it proves how wrong I am in the head, but it's a funny 3-minute animated short. Basically, I feel pretty good that if you enjoy this strip, you'll probably find something in there that you like.

For your viewing pleasure, please check the video directly to the left of this post, or click on this conveniently placed link.

If you enjoy it, let me assure you that there is more on the way that makes this one seem like an ABC After school Special.

We'd also ask that you help us spread the word by sharing the video with as many as your friends and family (above the age of 16 please) as possible.

If we get a decent amount of Youtube traffic, Lar and I will do something special for you folks as a thank you (that may or may not involve our pants).

To help you help us promote this thing, please use any (And all!) of the following links:

Objects at Rest

As I sit here in my new office, surrounded by my staff who are enjoying their new surroundings tremendously, I find myself stuck on the same recurring thought:

"I'm so happy #$&*@#$ moving is over".

I'll have some pictures of the new digs later on this week to share with you, but for now, rest assured that the Red Bull fridge is even closer to my desk than ever before, thus all is well with the universe.

Two other things I wanted to mention today.

The first being further notice that Lar, Ryan, Randy and myself will be at Wizard World Chicago next week. We'll be there for the duration, and hope to see as many of you there as possible. I haven't been to Chicago in a few years, and I'm very much looking forward to the show.

The other item of note is that you should pay close attention to the youtube window on the front page, as there might be something new there within the next couple of days.

I also think you'll be amused.

And on a completely unrelated note, has anybody else noticed the frequency that Rihanna releases new songs? I think she might be a robot.

- Because I can.

In these small hours
These little wonders,
These twists & turns of fate
Time falls away,
But these small hours,
These small hours still remain"
